Roman Catholic Church

Roman Catholic ChurchThe church that can be found in the centre of the village was first mentioned in a written source in 1332. In 1732, the village, with a population which started to grow after the Turkish occupation, had only a wooden prayer house. The erection of a church was began in 1743 when the parish was founded. Orczy Lőrinc had the church built with the support of the local population. At this time it had a wooden tower. The stone tower was added in 1787. The baroque style can only be seen in the shrine because the church has been altered several times. There is a memorial tablet on the outside wall next to the entrance that commemorates the victims of the Second World War.

The Monk and Nun rock, Turkish table

The Monk and Nun rock

Rock formations with strange shapes that were created from rhyolite tuff that was scattered during volcanic activity. People called them the Monk and the Nun, which refer to their shapes that have been formed by the forces of nature over thousands of years. We can reach the Monk and the Noun easily, however the road is a bit steep. If we walk on, the next stop is the Turkish table. It was probably named after its shape as the flat rock reminds one of a table indeed. This place offers a spectacular view over the Bükk Mountains.

SzenSzent László Chapelt László Chapel of Kőkút

It was built on demand of the local people between 1992 – 1996. Its appearance and inner structure mix the styles of a mediaeval church and modern architecture.
