Phases of the project

Printer-friendly version

The project is divided into two phases and the first phase is divided into three sub-projects.

  • With the reconstruction of the lower castle and the rock corridor that leads to the upper part a significant Hungarian fortress will be restored (the gate and its surroundings will be restored, a yard and lookout terraces will be created on the lower castle grounds, roofed and closed spaces will be built, the surroundings of the corridor that lead to the upper part will be restored, exhibition installations will be created). Due to these measures the fortress will provide an authentic scene to present life in a mediaeval castle. New tourist attractions such as an operating drawbridge, ceremonious opening of the gates and the booming sound of cannons will make the castle more attractive. The colourful tourist programme will include contemporary crafts shows and the presentation of life in a fortress.
  • A place where programmes can be held will be created in the castle grounds (landscaping of the land below the castle, illumination of the castle). The fortress will be visible from every side and all through the day. The slope of the hill where the fortress is situated will be cleaned and thus can provide a place for performing sieges. Paths that show the geological peculiarities of the region will be created.
  • A centre: 'Kristóf Országh Events Hall and Information Centre' will be created in the residential building that represents 19th century architecture (tidying the garden, furnishing the barn and the residential building, installing communication and visual equipment). The rear of the building that was renovated earlier will house an exhibition where visitors can familiarize themselves with the customs of the region and the crafts. The wooden barn, which is in need of reconstruction, can provide a place for programmes, mainly programmes that introduce life in a fortress. The castle playground that will be built in the back yard will serve the same purpose.
